Windows XP Home, which gives you complete home computing functionality, including wireless connections, Windows Firewall, and privacy support
Windows XP Professional, which is recommended for home offices and features an encrypting file system to help protect sensitive data

Bask in beautiful graphics
All HP Pavilion a1100y PCs feature integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 900, bringing you realistic-looking digital photos, web graphics, and other visual content. It provides incredible visual quality, versatile display options, and 3-D performance--all without the additional cost, noise, and power that discrete graphics cards can require.

Stock up on memory
HP Pavilion a1100y desktops come standard with single-channel DDR2 400MHz SDRAM, which is affordable but fast enough for all those regular tasks (word processing and sending e-mail). For more-data-intensive work (e.g., photo editing) you can upgrade to dual-channel DDR2-400MHz SDRAM, which reduces the timing delays that invariably occur with a single memory module.

Get plenty of storage with a roomy hard drive
You can never have too much space for storing digital photos and songs. When you customize a Pavilion a1100y, you can choose a drive with up to 250GB (7200 rpm).

Make movies, make music
All HP Pavilion a1100y PCs can be customized with up to two optical drives. What does this mean for you? It's easy to both burn music and data on CDs (using a CD writer) and create your own home movies (using a DVD+RW/+R DVD writer).

Add silkscreen-quality graphics, photos, and text to CDs and DVDs
Burn professional-looking labels right on LightScribe-enabled discs, straight from your PC, with the optional HP LightScribe DVD writer. After burning a disc, you just flip and reinsert it in the same drive for labeling--no printing, aligning, or sticking.

Pump up the volume
This series comes with Apple iTunes for Windows, which lets you download your favorite songs plus organize a cool, personal music collection.

High-end technology in an affordable package
Integrated IEEE 1394 Firewire provides support for both plug-and-play and hot plugging. The a1100y is one of the few entry-level PC that comes with this high-end technology standard, providing fast and flexible connectivity to peripheral devices.
