Comparison Between AMD & Intel Processors
by MDofPC

As an introduction, lots of differences exist between AMD athlon series & Intel processors. First we will see about the technologies these processors uses. Of course, there are technology differences between these processors. Evolution of computer system is growing to increase in last 2 years, and moreover it has been characterized by many desired changes that affect industrial development. Today it is a sixth generation system processors in which multitasking system are going into vast area of thread multiplication. In multithreaded CPU, more impact is given on the threading of various tasks & processes. In addition it uses powerful cache system, like L1 cache memory and L2 cache memory. It is contained in the processor Core and works as the clock frequency of the processor, so in a CPU with 500 MHz of clock, it will work at 500 MHz. The amount of L1 cache is usually reduced: in K6-2 and K6-III CPUs there are 64 Kbytes, while in Pentium 2, Pentium III and Celeron there are 32 Kbytes. L1 cache is the primary cache which is used to hold temporary data & instruction. Also, it sends these program instructions to system bus. Normally, L1 cache is divided in two blocks with the same size, one for data and the other for instructions. Cache system is used in order to speed up RAM memory, so that there is minimal access of random access memory by processor. The amount is higher than that of L1 cache and it isn't divided in blocks for data and instructions. It can be integrated in the core of the CPU (as in Celeron and K6-III) or external to the CPU core but always on the CPU (as in Pentium II and Pentium III) or even on the motherboard (as in K6-2). The amount can change: 128 Kbytes for Celeron; 256 Kbytes for K6-III, 512 Kbytes for Pentium II. A second parameter to judge is the internal architecture of the CPU Core. The instructions topologies carried by a processor are, in general, two: Integer calculations are a frequent in Business applications (word processing, spreadsheet, personal products, and so on). Floating point calculations: used with High-End applications and with 3D scenes. The architecture chosen allows to obtain higher performance than the competitors in one, or both, topologies; Without describing the technical details, is important to know that CPU Core of AMD K6-2 and K6-III. This is achieved with the equal clock frequency, enhanced performance than that of Intel Celeron, Pentium II and Pentium III CPUs with integer calculations, as the contrary isn't true, where Intel CPU are superior with floating point calculations.
